I got this because I needed a boost before a rough trial but upon reading it I realized that it should be read by every kid lawyer starting out in litigation. I now give it to my recent law school graduates as they begin their own trials - packed with heart, it is.

I recommend this book to my first-year law students.Rick Friedman has a simple, positive writing style (that I know is much harder to do than it looks). The book's inspiring and motivating message reminds students why they came to law school. It would also be a great book for people considering law school.

Rick Friedman is a lawyer's lawyer -- thoughtful, reflective and relentlessly honest with himself and his chosen profession of trial law. Better then all the adult books I bought! Explains everything simply but still scientifically. My 6, 7 and 12 year old loved it as well as me and my husband. It also explained the park and attractions in a much simpler and better way then the big tour guide books I bought.

Great book- my 13 y/o enjoyed it. Easy to read, but appropriate and interesting enough for a pre-teen. We'd been to Yellowstone before, but learned several new facts along the way with this book.

We had several books about Yellowstone but this was the most helpful resource and easiest to use Everything was laid out well making it easy to find what we wanted and had great information to share.

This book was too short for the money. It was also too basic a read for my 10 year old.

This was very useful in planning our trip to Yellowstone and I referred to it frequently during our trip to Yellowstone. Without the guide book, we would've missed all the great areas to Yellowstone to see.

Thought it would be larger in size and have more color photos. Information is good.

He does discuss Harry Potter, but mostly in the context of fan fiction.Jenkins discussion of transmedia storytelling is fascinating, and fits together very well with Frank Rose's discussion in The Art of Immersion. The discussion of transmedia storytelling combines Jenkins' three concepts of media convergence, participating culture, and collective intelligence, because it requires consumers to move across multiple media and collaboration with a fan community to fully experience a story. As mentioned above, he uses the example of the Matrix movies to illustrate this point. Traditionally, all the information viewers needed to fully understand a movie were contained in the movie itself and presented in a mostly linear way that was easy to grasp, but movies like The Matrix provide open ended clues and loose strands that can't be fully understood without collaborating with other fans through online communities and by taking part in other extensions of the story in different mediums such as comics and video games. In some cases, these extensions may provide more background or a deeper understanding of the movie, or they might be completely new tangents unexplored in the movie. It will be interesting to see if this mode of story telling continues to gain traction.Overall I enjoyed reading Convergence Culture, especially having also previously read The Art of Immersion. I do think Jenkins was trying to fit too much into the book, and at times the organization was a bit clunky. Each chapter focused on a particular TV show or movie as an example, so there was a chapter that discussed Survivor and the concepts of fan paticipation and "spoiling," the process by which fans share information that hasn't been aired yet about popular TV shows online. There was also a chapter on American Idol and advertising and fan participation. I think it may have been a better idea to organize the book around these ideas and provide more examples as opposed to organizing the book by show or movie. By far my favorite chapter was the one that focused on transmedia storytelling and The Matrix. By comparison, the last chapter on politics and popular culture and the afterword on the ramifications of YouTube on politics, while interesting and important, seemed out of place.Perhaps my biggest gripe was how dated the book seemed. Despite being published in 2008 (the paperback was published in 2008, the hardcover in 2006), some of the examples given and, for instance, the lengthy explanation on what a blog is, made the book feel very dated, which goes to show how rapid the media landscape is changing. I would definitely recommend reading this book either before or after The Art of Immersion for a more well-rounded view.

Needed this book for a college course. If you are not into the subject, this can be a very difficult and tedious read. The author is well respected for his significant contributions on the subject matter, so for that I do give him credit for his thorough work. But I gained very little not being a communications major and having to use this book.

I purchased this for an English class. It's okay. I didn't find the content to be very entertaining but again, I only purchased this for a class. Other than that the book was delivered quickly through the kindle app.

Convergence Culture is a book about many of the things that technology is incorporating into our lives that we are slowly taking for granted.If you have ever been interested in how technology is changing how we view the world, this is a good book to look at. The chapters focusing on Survivor, The Matrix, and Harry Potter fanficton are all of great interest.

This is a good guide to have while traveling through the Smokies. We were sent a guide that was several years old however. We were leaving in four days so there was nothing I could do about it. When we got back I told the seller and he apologized and offered to send me the new one. I said we already got back from vacation and used the one he gave us. He told me to keep it and he politely refunded my money. But I highly recommend this guide if you are visiting the park.

I first saw this book while visiting my brother in Tennessee. I had to order one for my own porcelain library!I have learned so much about what is real in the entertainment and music industry, politics, science, human behavior and many other interesting areas of life.

I attempted to order the book from 2 different supplies and both times they sent me the wrong book because it was labeled incorrectly in their system. I did not try to order the 3rd time....too much trouble!

Excellent reading, it is written in an easy conversational manner which takes you through the history of the area.It's a road guide so the focus is on attractions you will find driving through the Smokies. Each road has it's owncolored tab section with wonderful photographs accompanying the articles. Finally there is a fold out map on the back coverwith an index to the description for each road. Very helpful.This guide is also available from the Park online store (google it) don't pay more than you have to!
