This was recommended by Carole Joy Seid, the homeschooling consultant who comments that contemporary worship music has very little of Christian doctrine like the traditional hymns. She is so right! We have enjoyed playing this is in the morning when we are getting our day started and it really sets a great tone. Highly recommend this book & CD. We are going to try to source the other book/CD sets as they are no longer in print.

These are so uplifting for both child and parent. My 3-yr. old boy and 1-yr. old girl find these hymns to be very upbeat and excellent. They both are very fond of classical music and these hymns are a perfect variation for them.

The quality is good, just different than I was expecting and not really what I wanted. I wanted something simple to be able to teach kids hymns. The CD is a BIG production, with full orchestra, grand instrumental interludes, key changes, etc. Listening to it felt like being in a mega-church on Easter morning. The children sing well, but it is difficult to hear the words on many songs over all the instrumentation. The book is good quality also, but the tight hardback binding makes it impossible to set open to the music pages on a piano. I noticed the others in the series appear to be spiral bound, but not this one. I would have appreciated a CD of a few kids singing to a piano with the same music provided in the book. I don't expect to use this much at all for my purposes, but it depends what you're after.

I stumbled across this book (and CD) and got the idea to have our music ministry present this to our children as part of their baptismal process to encourage family worship at home. The book is well written and the graphics are beautiful. Our church sings hymns as well as contemporary music so it will be very appealing to our children. I know it will be a blessing.

Our three year old granddaughter just loves this CD. She requests it over and over again and asks all sorts of questions about why Christ came and died and what "risen again" means! She loves to hear other children singing, and the orchestration is great.Kudos guys, your CD is a hit.

I was hoping for a bit of history behind the hymns or about the composer/lyricist. However, the hymns are good, the CD is good-quality, and the stories are well-written so my 6-year-old can understand them.

I got the EV3 for my 7 year old son as soon as it came out. By accident, we ended up with the educational version. The instructions provided were not clear enough to get us easily up and running. I started buying other EV3 books. They generally assumed that one had done Mindstorms previously. I just did not have time to help my son figure the thing out, and it sat in a box for months.Then this book arrived. We are up and running, and my son is engrossed and so am I. The author gives terrific detail, and has small projects scattered through each chapter to help develop understanding of each of the features. We work through a few pages each evening, and do one or two projects (e.g., program the EV3 to do a figure 8). These projects are perfect.As to the educational version vs the home version..... I splurged and got the expansion set. It turns out that this just has a lot of Technics-type structural pieces. It does not have new motors or sensors. The educational packs has all of the motors and sensors of the home version with two exceptions: the remote control sensor and related beacon. I got those thru the lego site. There may be a few add'l pieces that we'll need in the future to build all of the projects in this book, but we are 1/4 the way thru and haven't found them.I'd also refer you to the book's website, which has a lot of useful information. The author has also kindly responded to specific questions (relating to education vs home versions), and has been quite helpful. So...can't recommend this more enough. I recommend it to all home users as well as school clubs.

Great book and easy to follow. This is exactly the kind of book I needed to fully understand how to program the ev3. There are a ton of books that show you how to build robots, but they never fully explain the programming part, which is in my opinion the biggest part about building robots. And there are other books that are too intense are the programming side. This one is right in the middle. My son always wants to build these robots, but then just wants to control them with the little controller. I tell him that now it's just an R/C toy and we could have saved money buying an R/C car. Understanding robots not only involves how to build them, but also how to program them, and this book does a good job with both.

Big Thanks to the author, Laurens Valk. I bought the Mindstorms EV3 #31313 and this book at the same time. The day this came in, my 9 yr old girl spent a couple of hours by herself one night and made the EXPLOR3R without any help. She never had any prior experience, I was thinking I might need to study this with her to help, but I was blown away by what I saw in the morning. This quick leap would not have been possible without this book as reference. She is progressing day by day using the book, learning the programming. Illustrations and pictures are spot on. Quite happy it turned out the best for a beginner child. I’d recommend it to every parent.

For those of you who want to know about Mindstorms and can understand some programming helps. This is truly written for your Lego Teen fanatic. It is super for those who want to understand this Lego Robot machine and programming better.Love it.It did help the tag along Mom understand this robot but it is very detailed and some of it needs more attention then I could give it at that time.It would be the perfect handbook for any gifted and talented parent and student as well as teacher. It is worth the read. It is worth the purchase.

I liked the book a lot and it is a very easy step by step description of the EV3 system, the software programming and the sensors and actions one can do - strangely, my 8 yr old preferred to just play and try all the available buttons rather than reading this 'manual' - so this turned out to be not so useful for the intended audience, but helped me help my kid to not be frustrated with the EV3

Our one frustration with this book is that is goes with the retail version of the Mindstorm and we have the educational version. So the pieces don't line up exactly correctly. My kids have still had a great time building things from this book though - they just have to get a bit creative when it calls for a piece they don't have in their set.

If you're buying Lego Mindstorms, you really should get this book, too. It contains lots of great projects with easy-to-follow instructions. My grandson has built just about every project in the book and he loves it.

This is an excellent book.As a long-time professor, this is the book I'd like my name on. The diagrams are very clear and the writing is helpful and informative. I bought the book (and the Mindstorms kit) for my grandsons, but first I wanted to build one of the robots in the book and to do some programming for it in case I needed to help my grandsons with the versions they build. I can see it will be very easy to turn over this book and the Mindstorms components to my grandsons.

I already owned the 1995 version of the book, so what is the difference between that and the 2015 version? There are tons of new photos added to the book. Additional sketches, photos of fabric swatches, and many, many more photos of Jackie wearing the clothes, along with clippings, news releases...all together it is a much better version, one which I highly recommend. However the book is not without some considerable faults. Several of the photos are pixilated and out of focus. Some of the new text is of a darker color then the original text, even within the same paragraph. The book lacks quality control, which I found to be disappointing for a Rizzoli book. It's as if there was no proofing prior to sending the book to the publisher. Even with these faults, I still feel that the new version is a better book to own.

This book is an elegant "coffee table" book that I would leave out for visiting friends to peruse. I got it because I have a vintage barbie doll from that era, and I wanted to make her a "Jackie" styled dress. Reading the designer's notes on how he created the signature look for the first lady is fascinating. But I noticed on many of his sketches we have waistline darts, while the eventual dress had princess lines - which made the dresses look more classic and timeless and gave them a smoother look.

Really enjoyable book. Offers a good insight into the mind of the First Lady and her attention to fine detail as well as her graciousness in acknowledging the work done for her and the expertise involved in providing her with clothes which stunned the world and helped the fasihon industry in America. .

The only reason I gave 1 star is that I received tje book and the cover is torn in 2 places making it not attractive to use as a coffee table book. I contacted seller but have not heard anything. I will be returning the book since cover is torn and cannot take cover off since the book under the cover is just black.

I loved all of the photos of the beautiful clothing in Jackie Kennedy's wardrobe. Enjoyable read at a great price.

This may be my all-time favorite documentary book. I have several books documenting the Kennedy White House & legacy, and this is by-far the best. I'm so glad I invested in this book!

About the Author

Curt R. Bartol has been a college professor for more than 30 years, teaching a wide variety of both undergraduate and graduate courses, including biopsychology, criminal behavior, juvenile delinquency, introduction to forensic psychology, social psychology, and psychology and law. He earned his PhD in Personality/Social Psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1972. He was instrumental in creating and launching Castleton State College's graduate program in Forensic Psychology and served as its Director for 6 years. As a licensed clinical psychologist, he has been a consulting police psychologist to local, municipal, state, and federal law enforcement agencies for nearly 25 years. He is also the Editor of Criminal Justice and Behavior, the international journal of the American Association for Correctional Psychologists. In addition to Introduction to Forensic Psychology, he has written Criminal Behavior: A Psychosocial Approach, now in its sixth edition, and coauthored, with Anne Bartol, Juvenile Delinquency: A Systems Approach, Delinquency and Justice: A Psychosocial Approach (2nd edition), and Psychology and Law: Theory, Research, and Application (3rd edition). He has published extensively in the field of forensic psychology.   Anne M. Bartol earned an MA and a PhD in Criminal Justice from State University of New York at Albany. She also holds an MA in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At this time Catherine was still working for TEACCH. (I knew I was autistic before that, but being a girl & growing up in the 80's I had grown-up with other labels, like "emotionally disturbed.") Having the diagnosis finally made official & having *BOTH* people in my life & MYSELF accept that there was a neurological reason for my differences & behaviors (rather than problems with my character) was vitally important. This book helped make that possible. And it was on the very day of my diagnosis that I first encountered it!I was extremely exhausted & stressed after undergoing the series of required psychological & cognitive tests. Actually, I was ready to run out the door. (Which was something that I did a lot under stress in those days.) But while the results of the tests were being discussed, the therapist (probably detecting my distress) handed me this book to look at. I promptly proceed to focus on the book & ignore everyone else.I have to admit that the first thing I liked about the book was that it was HEAVY. It was the weight/pressure of the book on my lap that actually helped me to sit & slow down my stimming. Eventually I calmed down enough to look inside of the book & read some of the words. When Catherine came in & was introduced to me for the first time, I said, "I like your book! It is helping me to sit!" In the days after my evaluation, my thoughts kept coming back around to this book. I really wanted to be able to explore it more, in my own time. We went to the library & checked it out. I am so glad that we did! I read it & re-read it. I did the activities in the book. While other books I had access to were dense & wordy, this book was easy to process & broken down into parts that I could manage. I was learning, understanding & accepting a lot about myself, through using this book.And here is what was really great: It didn't just help me, it helped my partner a lot too. We *both* read it, through the book we were communicating about important topics. It helped us both understand what was going on! I am really grateful for this experience.Even though the book is meant for children and teens, I think it is really useful for people of any age! I liked that my differences were presented in a straight-forward, non-judgmental, positive way. It was extremely validating to see them in print. That they were in a book made me feel not alone & not "wrong." I started to feel more kind & gentle with myself, I started to think in terms of "differences" rather than "deficiencies" or "faults."I loved the concrete suggestions. As an adult, I enjoyed reading the sections for "Parents & Teachers" as well. I especially loved reading about schedules & the examples of schedules in the book. I loved how Catherine introduces the idea of getting help or requesting help. This is a cornerstone for self-advocacy. And I had never known that I could ask for help.I loved the work-sheet statements that I could easily read & think about & process... and then decide if they were "true for me." Seeing things that *were* honestly true for me, in print, helped me to understand truths about myself that I had never been able to form into words before or communicate to another person! I started to feel like, "Hey! Someone understands me! This has never really happened before! I want to keep going, keep learning!" One of my favorite things was reading about "the quiet children." As a very silent child, it made me so happy to read this. In the second edition, there are some great new additions to the book. I love the way Catherine defends stimming! I want to be in a class that has group stimming time, like she recommends. I would have loved doing this in school. The expanded additions on talents & creative expression are wonderful! I hope that everyone who reads the book will find some of their own talents reflected in this chapter. And the chapter on being happy is very important. I like that it has very concrete suggestions for improving happiness. This makes feeling better very accessible to the autistic cognitive style. The section on students giving their own input in the IEP process THRILLS me to no end! Lastly, I think the sections for older kids on self injurious behavior & depression/suicidal feelings are also really important. These topics are hard for anyone to discus! This gives a non-emotional, logical way for autistic people to try to express big, complicated feelings & experiences. This book is *very* important for autistic children because it helps them to understand themselves & their experiences. And to realize that their experiences may be different from other people's. Typically, so much treatment for autistic children focuses on language development, changing behavior, and developing “social skills.” These are all external observable traits. BUT they do not address the lived in, internal experience of being an autistic person.What Catherine's book can do is help children understand who they are, on the INSIDE. This is vitally important and there needs to be more focus on this area of personal development!!! I don't know if non-autistic people can appreciate how out of control life can feel when you live in a world that is not designed for your way of being. But every bit of understanding that we have, of ourselves & of each other, helps to make navigating the world a tiny bit easier. And. PLEASE remember: If accurate information is not available to help children understand themselves, they will *STILL* come to conclusions about who they are & how they are in the world. And this information (more often than not) will be provided by people who (at best) do not understand autism & (at worst) by people who are being actively unkind (for example: bullies!). By using this book I think children can gain self-understanding, self-acceptance & (ultimately) self-confidence in ways that are really tailored to their strengths & abilities. Everyone feels better when they are understood & understand themselves! Autistic people are not different in this regard.- Jade McWilliams

I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend of mine and it is everything that I expected it to be. I'm always hesitant to purchase books like this because I'm afraid they will not be Autism-positive. Catherine Faherty has done an amazing job of making this book very Autistic friendly and very positive. I especially love that the book is dedicated to the Autistic community! The illustrations at the beginning of each chapter are beautifully done. The book is broken down into chapters covering topics such as school and friends, and has a section for younger kids and older kids. Don't let the price scare you off - this is a book that you and your family can use together for years! As an Autistic parent of an Autistic child, I think this book should be in every Autism family and professional's library!

I have the other book, What Does Asperger's Mean To Me, and have purchased that one about 4 times in my career as a school psychologist spanning 14 years, because it keeps getting stolen. This is an amazing resource for families and students and teachers, and have incredibly helpful handouts to provide that give good instructions and suggestions. I have frequently used these with students in counseling. It would be VERY helpful if the book were reproducible with some of the forms, because it is cost prohibitive to use this as an intervention if you have to buy this huge book for every student, and they may not necessarily need all the modules.

Like other reviewers, I loved this book and wish I had gotten it sooner for my now 10 year old son with mild autism. It helps give him a voice and helps me and others understand him better. He's able to communicate what triggers anxiety and has a better understanding of himself. Also, he realizes now that there are other kids like him. Some of the tips have been truly helpful, such as how to deal with feeling upset (communicate in writing, no eye contact). I didn't realize how badly we were handling this until we read this. We have already used some of these tips and have been successful.

Even though I already suspected my daughter was on the Autisum Spectrum, it was still hard to hear the diagnosis. This book was suggested for her, for us to use with her. My daughter is very high functioning and would have previously been diagnosed with Asperger's (which is not longer its own category anymore, it is all Autism Spectrum Disorder). This book is not very suitable for older children or children that are higher functioning in my opinion. Too expensive for the few pages I can actually use from this book. Probably a better resource for a special education teacher with students in elementary or middle school who needs to show they are working on specific IEP goals.

There was language in the product description indicating this book would be appropriate for a young adult but I can’t possibly give this to my newly diagnosed 22 year old. With its gigantic type and superficial metaphors, he would perceive it as a monumental insult. I have no doubt it is a marvelous resource for children and their caregivers, so the 1 star refers only to my unfulfilled hope of finding a book for our situation. I’ll see if Amazon will take it back so someone can use it as intended.

by far the best book ive seen(and had) that is a workbook for autism spectrum. easy to use, yet very insightful and giving the needed aid and understanding that is needed to communicate and understand behaviors, and to express oneself. its really not limited to just parent and child. if an adult on the spectrum, it still helps, and the parent sections will help with coping skills and ways to make each of your days better. also it can be shared with that person who can advocate for you, or the person who is there to help (like a therapist), or you dont have to show it at all to anyone.

I got this book for my 9 year old who has mild autism. So far we love the book as it helps him understand what it means to have autism and explains that it's not something negative. It has more in depth reading for older children/teens as well so that he can look back at it as he gets older.

I learnt a lot from this book - not from the bits intended for adults although they were useful for those that work with my 10 year old child - but from the bits she filled in. She enjoyed highlighting and we sat together while she did it so she could explain stuff to me as she went along. I even got an inkling that she has an unusual form of OCD that was not really apparent day to day but was worrying her enough for us then to seek help with. Each chapter has a part for the child in workbook style - they can either write or highlight the bits that are pertinent to them - and then a more detailed part intended for older kids , carers and parents which is more to do with what you can do to help.I like the way that that Aspergers is presented in a matter of fact way - very suitable for someone with a new diagnosis. It does not "label" but explains strengths and weaknesses along with many suggestions about things that might help. My child could have used this from about age 6 or 7 but she is very literary - maybe more like 9 or 10 for most AS kids?Whilst the timetables, check lists, single step tasks, home office, what finished means etc is very basic for those of us who have lived with AS it is very poorly understood at mainstream schools in our experience. The education chapter should be compulsory reading for all teachers with an AS kid in the class. It is a bit irritating to use the word Aspergers in the title and then go for autism all the way through the book but as long as you explain that Aspergers is part of an autism spectrum so your child knows why I don't see it as a major issue. In my opinion, the only real difference between HFA and AS if someone with HFA becmes fully verbal is the age at which speech is acquired. They then look indistinguishable.The only problem is the length of it - it is off-putting to all but the most dedicated mainstream teacher. Can I tell you about Asperger syndrome by Jude Welton is a tiny little thing and although not nearly as good as this book teachers seem more inclined to glance at in my experience (sadly).

The book is very dense and difficult to understand. The title is very appealing but the content of the book is very intellectual. When I bought the book I was looking for practical ideas to focus on the present moment in psychotherapy. It was difficult for me to stay engaged and interested. I resorted to flipping pages then giving up on it.

A research-based account of the psychology of the present moment with far-reaching consequences for our concept of ourselves, for intersubjectivity and for philosophy of life.Key concepts: subjective experience, experience as it is lived, the moment of meeting, microanalytic interview, implicit knowledge, temporal dynamics, vitality affects, the present moment, the now moment, a lived story, intentions, intentional-feeling-flow, the intersubjective matrix, the mutual interpenetration of minds, mirror neurons, conscousness, intersubjective consciousness, sharing, intersubjective orienting, sloppiness in cocreation, the moving along process, a shared feeling voyage, change."This book is about subjective experience - especially experiences that lead to change.... The idea of presentness is the key." (p. xiii)

The hardback edition of this book is filled to the limit with spelling and gramatical errors; who edited it? The sloppiness takes away from an interesting, if occasionally dull, perspective about how change occurs in small moments of shifting awareness of self and other. Stern seems unsure of his audience and so his book falls somewhere between being suitable for the general reader or geared towards the professional.

3 years ago, I have heard a presentation on Stern's vitality affects, and that was one of the reason for I started my psychological studies.In Daniel Stern's and the Boston Process Change Study Group approaches I found something that I looked for years: the trial of integration of general research based psychology, child development and applied psychology in psychotherapy.Wundt felt that the psychology needed to be based on scientific research, but dod not found the "spirit". Neuropsychologysts see the "hardware" but can not respond to every day life phenomens on the "software" level, analytical approches found the spirit but forgot the interpersonal, socialpsychology drives everything from the "social" and does not leave place for the person.This is an "integrator" work, I beleive one of those, which will be the basis of the 21st century psychology and psychotherapy.I hope it will be soon translated to several languages and initiate also base researches on the nature of "human present moments".
