I bought my first edition of this book back in the late 80s and even though I have taken good care of it, over the decades ... well, the past is gobbling up the future. For years the only source book of this nature was '777 and other Qabalistic Writings of Aleister Crowley' This is a great book to supplement 777 and I highly recommend it to anyone who studies the Literal and the Unwritten Qabalah. It is, simply put, a must have for any Esoteric Library. It functions much the same as Crowley's 777 so if you are familiar with that book you will have no problems with this one. The real difference between the two is Godwin's is a bit easier to read, as opposed to A. Crowley's writing style. I'm fine with Crowley's writings. Love them. But, this book is really easy to read and USE in your everyday studies of QBL! 93!

Wow!Everything about this book is simply amazing! Layout. Correspondences. Illustrated. This is a must for anyone involved with occult. I remember as a child I used to read encyclopedias and dictionaries. Well this is one that will be near to hand. David Godwin, Thank you for re releasing your work. Truly brilliant!

This book saved my Life i must say at first i didnt understand it but after researching for a couple of years and came back to this book i was raised TO A LIVEING PERPENDICULAR if you dont have this book next to your Webster dictionary you are finished mr Godwin said that this book might has well been in arabic.I said to my self islam is mathmatics so is this book peace

A good judge of the worth of a Reference book is how often you use it. I use this book almost every day -- usually more than once a day. It has most of the words one enounters as a Qabalist/Kabbalist, and some that one rarely sees. It has a more than adequate alphabetical list of Hebrew words and phrases with their corresponding Gematria. And, it has a list of numbers in the back with a healthy listing of words that correspond to those numbers.Oh, there are a couple of things I don't particularly like about it. It has too much emphasis on Crowely in it (even with Sepher Sephiroth in the very back). Crowely didn't know the Hebrew language well enough to make a significant contribution in this regard. Also, his own list of words (Sepher Sephiroth) shows a bias that one can only call, strange. Anyway, to each his own.There's also a single-minded preference for the Western Hermetic Tree as the only one viable, and any serious student of the Qabalah/Kabbalah knows that this is problemmatic at best.Still, even with these reservations, I heartily recommend this book for anyone who is a student of any Qabalistic Tradition. There's definitely enough 'meat' in here to make it worthwile.Peace Profound,Neshamah

This is truly an esoteric encyclopedia, not a lesson book on the Kabbalah. Complex and puzzling at times, but fascinating, nonetheless.

I love this book so very much! I have learned so much that I never even realized I was missing out on through the study and daily reading of this tome. It is always handy, so I can look up words/letters/numbers on the fly. I also enjoy looking up Angels, Goetic Demons, Qlippoth, Tunnels of Set and much more. It has added a great deal to my understanding of correspondences and Tarot. Plus it contains Sepher Sephirot from 777, to give further meaning to the numbers. All around a great book. Kudos to the author!I do have one quibble, the binding of the book is not the best quality and I predict I will have to replace this book in time. I would think it is the sheer size of the volume that contributes to this and I will gladly replace it if the time comes. It is a minor issue because the content is so worthwhile. Otherwise I like the paper and the layout and fonts are very well done. I will always have a copy, that is for sure. Highly recommended!

I like it but you have to remember this is more like a guide book. you have to have a basic understanding on the topic. It's very expensive but it is a really thick book which had breakdown from numbers for: Hebrew, English etc. For the reader who really wants to learn.

Generally a great book, very motivational, and in all sincerity quite inspiring. BUT I absolutely HATED the misogyny in some of the chapters. Why would you ruin an otherwise amazing book by including a few chapters riddled with unnecessary passages clearly intended to degrade women? Just a few examples: “gaping vaginas weeping and quitting like whiny little bitches” (p. 107), “Do you have some sand in your p—-y? (P. 134), etc., etc, Some of us women also kick ass and are hard. Please don’t minimize us or what we’ve worked so hard to achieve. Hope Goggins reads this and says, “Roger that” in response. Otherwise, it’s a fantastic book.

He cusses too much and it ruins reading the book. Felt like I got ripped off buying the book . Made a bad mistake even reading book. What a waste of a triumph due to cussing.

I think this would have been a much better read if he could have left out a large amount of the foul language. I understand it’s who he is and most likely how he talks in real life, but it was over the top. I’ve read other books by military members or Navy seals and always know I’ll have to over look a lot of language, but this was really excessive and over powering in this book. I wanted my boys to read this book and I love to share good books on social media and/or with my friends, but I won’t be encouraging anyone to read this book simply because the language is really too intense. To a point where it’s vulgar and embarrassing to recommend. Was disappointed. :(

I’ll keep this short and simple... this book will not give you motivation... It will instead give you the tools to change your life once and for all. It’s so powerful I purchased the hard copy and the audiobook. Extra note: the audiobook comes with lots of great bonus material in every chapter.... it’s worth getting even if you have a hard copy. Buy it, read it, listen to it, share it... change your life.

I never write reviews. However, I cannot put down this damn book. I listened to all of Goggin's podcast on Rogan, etc. and was hesitant to buy this because I thought I already knew his story. There is so much more going on in this book. You need get it.

As David gets vulnerable and reveals his life story. I began to cry as he detailed his brutal childhood. It got me thinking I don't have any excuse to be mediocre... Soon after that David tells to story of getting to BUDS and has me laughing as he explains the physical brutality that he learned to laugh his way through. It got me thinking again, I don't have any excuse to be mediocre. All through this book, David's life experience revealed that everything is a mind game and the more I can find a reason for being, then motivation, willpower, opinions, and fear all become irrelevant. The audio book has commentary between chapters that brings these stories to life. David does an incredible job and this book has changed the trajectory of my life. The 10 challenges are underway and I am excited to see where they take me. You will cry, you will laugh, you will ask yourself "am I capable of more?" and if you are like me, you will say yes and get to work... FWIW, I highly recommend this book

This book is different than the generic self help books that we have all read. David didn't just regurgitate what everyone else said about self improvement. He invented his own methods through trial and error. He is also not afraid to tap into something that our society has just about eliminated, negative reinforcement. My self-improvement journey was always hindered by too much positive reinforcement throughout my life. There is a place for this, but sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and call yourself out with brutal honesty, David literally does this daily.This book is as much an amazing story as it is a self-help book.

This book is more than just another self-help book. David Goggins is the real deal; a man who came from struggle and hardship, accomplished many impressive feats and became one of the toughest men alive. In this book he lays out his life story, with all the hardships he faced and how he came out stronger for it. With this book he doesn't just offer short term motivation but rather a deep shift in your mindset that will help you achieve your fullest potential, as long as you're willing to put in the work. After reading this book I finally understand what was wrong with my mentality and I can safely say that I now have a new attitude towards life and achieving my goals. Now I understand what it takes to live up to your full potential, which is something that 99% of people are never quite able to do. Here's a hint- it doesn't happen without suffering. This book is worth its weight in gold.

Hopp/Spearman have built and improved an essential guide to the fundamental principles of operations analysis. After years of hearing Factory Physics praised by my Industrial Engineering colleagues, I finally got it. As a practitioner and teacher I cannot overstate that this is essential knowledge of the dynamics of operating systems. Most of us don't get what's going on in our operations. Hopp & Spearman not only explain it, they provide the equations! I also greatly appreciate the historical perspective provided in Part I. Having lived operations through this time period, not only is it quite accurate, but also I find this perspective to be particularly helpful for new learners. Part II does well to explain what is really going on in operating systems and, for math nerds, lays out all the equations. Hopp/Spearman do well to provide simple systems to demonstrate these calculations, and refer back to these examples to reinforce principles later in the text. Part III adds more detailed guidance of applications of the principles in today's operating environment. All of this is presented in a pleasant writing style that is easy to read. This wisdom appears somewhat unique in the discipline and provides insights into understanding our complex operating environments that is seldom seen in other sources.

this book deals with Lean and Theory Of Constraints to explain the advantages and disadvantages. Its a very difficult read as it contains lots of formulas and physics! but worth it if you are considering a career in industrial engineering. very nominal rental price and the book arrived fast.

Must read for everybody interested in the natural behavior of production and supply chain systems. The theoretical explanations are not overwhelming. There is plenty of examples, questions and exercises which help to better understand problems. Good to know is that there is separate book containing the exercises answers, which can help to understand harder problems. I will certainly come back to this book from time to time.

Fun delve into the industrial engineering world, lots of statistics and vocab/concepts

When it comes to textbooks, they all tend to get a little technical here and there. With this book there is not an exception, however, the technical is kept to a minimum and is still fairly easy to approach. The remainder material is well presented and is interesting to read.

Good information. Quality of the book was not as expected.

I know the book is used, but the binding in rough shape. Hopefully it will not fall apart during the semester. There is a lot of tape holding it together.

I bought this book for a class that I'm taking in the fall, and I started reading it this weekend. I just completed part one, and while reading it I had to put this book down and weep multiple times. They say we don't see the world as it is… we see it as we are. We wake up every morning and open our eyes to a world that has been created for us. We breathe in ideas, thoughts, philosophies, opinions that created the world we live in. We believe what we have been told to believe. We think what we've been told to think. And until we trace the roots of our human history and the ideas they created it, we will never understand the world we live in or the world inside our own minds. Thank you, Ibram X. Kendi, for helping me to begin to trace some of the roots of the philosophies that rule our lives today. It is only in knowledge and understanding that we can undo the damage that's been done. I am undone… This book is incredible, brutal, devastating, truthful… necessary. Read it… weep . . . and then change yourself and your world.

The author posits that there are really 3 sides to the debate of racial disparities existing and persisting. The three sides are segregationists, assimilationists and antiracists. His definition of racism,i.e., the adoption of racist ideas is a simple one, and as such you will see some famous people that will surprise you to be labeled as racist at points in their career. W.E.B. DuBois is certainly a name most readers would never associate with being a "racist" during his long illustrious career.One thing that is most important in these kinds of arguments, is for everyone to be operating from the same definition. So to the author's credit he states his explanation of racist ideas early. Keep in mind, we are not talking about racism, but racist ideas and how these ideas have affected and infected not only Americans but world citizens. "My definition of a racist idea is a simple one: it is any concept that regards one racial group as inferior or superior to another racial group in any way. I define anti-Black racist ideas—the subject of this book—as any idea suggesting that Black people, or any group of Black people, are inferior in any way to another racial group."With that in mind,author Ibram Kendi compiles a comprehensive history of racist ideas, using historical "tour guides " to traffic readers through a landscape beginning in mid 1600 to present day. Kendi here makes a powerful statement with this book about how these racist ideas have led to continuing racist discrimination."I held racist notions of Black inferiority before researching and writing this book. Racist ideas are ideas. Anyone can produce them or consume them, as Stamped from the Beginning’s interracial cast of producers and consumers show...Fooled by racist ideas, I did not fully realize that the only thing wrong with Black people is that we think something is wrong with Black people.I did not fully realize that the only thing extraordinary about White people is that they think something is extraordinary about White people."That's a potent admission for someone writing the "definitive" history of racist ideas. But I think it is important to this wonderful work by Kendi. As he goes about exposing these ideas, readers may be surprised to find themselves subscribing to ideas that, by Kendi's definition are clearly racist. As we move through the five eras, with our guides, you will be fascinated as these ideas and the consequences of them are brought to light. Thoughts that you have given little attention to, and have become part of your consciousness will hopefully be liberated.Something that black people generally do when they hear some terrible news item, one of the initial thoughts is hoping the perpetrators are not Black. Does that hope spring from our buying into the racist idea that Black people are pathological? And we will be judged by the actions of the perpetrators and therefore be seen as defective? Is this a racist idea?"Already, the American mind was accomplishing that indispensable intellectual activity of someone consumed with racist ideas: individualizing White negativity and generalizing Black negativity. Negative behavior by any Black person became proof of what was wrong with Black people, while negative behavior by any White person only proved what was wrong with that person."All the ways that racist ideas have worked hand in hand with discrimination are unearthed here. And it may come as a surprise to some that prominent Black leaders of their day held tightly to racist ideas, like uplift suasion. The concept that "was based on the idea that White people could be persuaded away from their racist ideas if they saw Black people improving their behavior, uplifting themselves from their low station in American society. The burden of race relations was placed squarely on the shoulders of Black Americans. Positive Black behavior, abolitionist strategists held, undermined racist ideas, and negative Black behavior confirmed them."Sounds a lot like today's concept of respectability politics, if we would just pull our pants up, stop listening to that damn music, not be so loud, etc. etc. If we would just present ourselves in a more respectable manner, we could then usher in that post-racial epoch that some say is already here.The journey through the racist idea history has to include the players and events of the time periods covered and Kendi does a good job of incorporating that history and integrating the ideas that girded those times. The book clocks in at 500 pages, but it is well worth your time and investment.

About halfway through reading this book, I realized I was highlighting almost every single page and had to start color-coding my highlights so as to make a little more sense of why certain passages struck me—a visual testimony of how illuminating Stamped from the Beginning is. With a primary focus on racism toward African-Americans and people identified as Black, this book is a thoroughly researched, sweepingly comprehensive survey of racism from its first traceable roots in ancient Greece when Aristotle said Africans had “burnt faces” to the start of the African slave trade in 15th century Europe, to the first recorded slave ship arriving in colonial America in 1619, all the way through the Civil War, the Jim Crow laws, the 1960s Civil Rights movement, and up to the present day. In order to help readers navigate this extensive timeline, author Ibram X. Kendi divides the book into five parts, featuring one historical figure as a sort of tour guide or anchor for each part.Very few individuals or institutions mentioned in this book come off as completely free of racist thinking; even many abolitionists and civil rights activists are revealed to have held racist ideas that contradicted their cause. This made me realize the extent to which racism has ensnared the United States in its pernicious roots. In Stamped from the Beginning, Kendi presents two main ideas about racism that helped me understand its influence and progress over the centuries. First, he explains that “Hate and ignorance have not driven the history of racist ideas in America. Racist policies have driven the history of racist ideas in America.” The author admits, “I was taught the popular folktale of racism: that ignorant and hateful people had produced racist ideas, and that these racist people had instituted racist policies. But when I learned the motives behind the production of many of America’s most influentially racist ideas, it became quite obvious that this folktale, though sensible, was not based on a firm footing of historical evidence.” As Kendi explains further, “Racially discriminatory policies have usually sprung from economic, political, and cultural self-interests, self-interests that are constantly changing.” Now that I understand self-interest—not hate or ignorance—has been the driving factor behind racist policies, I can better understand why racism hasn’t died out with the Emancipation Proclamation or desegregation or any of the Civil Rights Acts passed in this country. Tragically, racism persists and continues to evolve according to the current self-interests of people and institutions in power. It’s why, after slavery was abolished, segregation and the Jim Crow laws rushed in to replace it, and long after segregation has been outlawed, African-Americans continue to be oppressed by disproportionate mass incarceration as well as disadvantaged by fewer, inferior housing and employment opportunities.Second, Kendi points out that racism is not simply a debate between those who support racist ideas and those who oppose racist ideas. Throughout history, three–not two–viewpoints on racism have persisted: “A group we can call segregationists has blamed Black people themselves for the racial disparities. A group we can call antiracists has pointed to racial discrimination. A group we can call assimilationists has tried to argue for both, saying that Black people and racial discrimination were to blame for racial disparities.” As much as I would like to believe I am firmly in the antiracist camp, reading this book made me realize I have held a lot of racist ideas from an assimilationist viewpoint that I need to correct. Kendi gives many examples of well-meaning civil rights activists, including some African-Americans, who upheld assimilationist ideas. Some persisted with these ideas their entire lives, others realized their error and later self-corrected to an antiracist viewpoint, and still others upheld both antiracist and assimilationist ideas, often not realizing the contradiction. Thus, a tragic pattern that has repeated itself throughout American history is the persistence of many assimilationists in seeking to abolish racist policies and ideas with the same flawed strategies that never work.Indeed, the African-American author admits, “Even though I am an African studies historian and have been tutored all my life in egalitarian spaces, I held racist notions of Black inferiority before researching and writing this book.” I think it’s crucially important that Kendi tells readers about his mistaken notions of race—not to make readers feel better about their own ignorance, but to demonstrate how deeply racist ideas have taken root in American culture. Hopefully this admission on the author’s part will ease readers out of their defensive mode and open their minds to the disturbing truth that racism is a lot more pervasive among us Americans than we would like to believe.If you want to understand exactly how racism took root in the United States and why it has persisted through the present day, if you are prepared for a very sobering, very painful, and often highly disturbing look at the many flaws, hypocrisies, and atrocities in the American notions of democracy, exceptionalism, and “liberty and justice for all,” then Stamped from the Beginning is a must-read. Ultimately, what the author conveys with copious examples is that “Black Americans’ history of oppression has made Black opportunities—not Black people—inferior.” An absolutely necessary emendation to the traditionally accepted canon of American history.
