Brandon Sanderson is quickly becoming my favorite author. I grew up with Tolkein, Asimov, Herbert, and other gifted writers. Though I was young and didn't understand everything on the page, the stories came alive for me. I was also a huge fan of Orson Scott Card in high school, and the past 15 years of George RR Martin.In my opinion Brandon Sanderson might just beat them all. I know that will be taken as blasphemous and borderline heresy, because Tolkein and Asimov are considered two of the greatest writers of all time. Just hear me out as to why I think Sanderson has something special with this series.The Way of Kings is the first in a planned 10 book series in the Stormlight Archive. These 10 books take place on a planet called Roshar, a planet with a unique and rich history. While humans are present, the world is very different than our own. The world is a very unforgiving place, with hurricane level storms traveling across the world every couple of weeks, giant crab like crustaceans roaming the world, and trees and other plant life have evolved a rock-like resilience to the elements.Right away you can see that this differs from the more traditional fantasy worlds of other authors. As if this isn't interesting enough, Sanderson goes one step further and introduces a magic system that hasn't been seen before. I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil it, but the discovery of this "magic" (if it can be called that) is both interesting and refreshing.Though this book and presumably all books in the Stormlight Archive will take place on the planet Roshar, Brandon Sanderson has done something even more ambitious with his books than other authors have attempted in the past. He has other series, such as Elantris, Mistborn, Warbreaker, etc that take place IN THE SAME UNIVERSE. Though these books take place in the same universe they take place on different planets, with different magic systems on each. How are there different magic systems? Well there is an explanation, (a really good one I might add) but for it to make sense, you really need to read the books. Do you have to have read one series first to enjoy another series? Absolutely not! That said, if you HAVE read some of the other books, there are numerous "Easter Eggs" that you will discover in some of the books that will make you smile.There is an over-arching plot between all of the books in each of Sanderson's series in the Cosmere Universe, but that plot is still in its infancy. Sanderson has said he knows his end game, and thankfully he is a very fast writer. It is amazing to me that Sanderson can write so quickly and yet so well at the same time. The character development each of the characters experiences is amazing. Each is well written, and even though I get annoyed at some of the decisions the characters make, I am not annoyed at the WRITING of those characters. The characters don't always make the best decisions, because Sanderson writes them as humans, and humans make mistakes. There are twists in the books that would rate very highly on the M. Night Shamalayan scale. There are very few books that have made me tear up as if someone cut an onion in the room, but for some reason this book (as well as Words of Radiance and Oathbringer) has made me do so.Do yourself a favor and buy this book. There's humor, romance, comedy, drama, and best of all, GOOD WRITING.

The title says it all. I. Became. Obsessed. Oh, you think I'm kidding? Let me explain. I bought the physical copy of this book due to a suggestion from a friend after finishing all of the Song of Ice and Fire novels (that are currently out). I started to read the first part of the book with the Heralds and then the second first part of the book with Szeth..and I couldn't get into it. The magic didn't make sense, the fighting was weird, I just couldn't get into it...but I pushed on.I started to read about Kaladin, Shallan, Dalinar, Syl, and Jasnah. I started to learn more about them, more about what was driving them, who they were, what they were about, what was going on with them, and it's like I've said before, I became obsessed. I HAD to know more. I took the book with me, everywhere that I went, picking it up and reading a few pages during small bits of spare time. I would think about it driving to work, the magic system, what was happening with the characters, what was happening with the world all popped into my head at weird times. I started to miss the book while driving so I bought the audible version of the book, even though I hated Michael Kramer at first (he gets better the more you listen). I bought the Kindle version so I wouldn't have to lug around my physical copy anymore...and so I could read on my web browser in between patients at work. When the physical copy got destroyed by my 2 year old daughter, I went and bought the book for the 4th time!What I'm trying to point out is that the book is THAT good. Good enough to purchase it 4 times on 3 different mediums. The world is incredibly well built, the characters are well thought out and they truly become your friends, you root for the invite everything that they do, other characters you will hate, love, and hate again. Sanderson is that good. The magic system is so convoluted and hard to grasp, there is so much to it, it truly is a wonder and really amazes me.that somebody could think this all up and keep it all straight while writing it.Please, if you haven't given this book a chance, do. I promise it is worth every single penny.

Original, beautiful, and most excellent. I don't remember why I added this to my reading list, but I'm incredibly grateful that I did. I usually read a review or three before starting a new book, going all the way back to when only print books were available and reading the blurbs led me to all kinds of new and interesting stories. I'm pretty sure I've read some of Mr. Sanderson' work before, but without reviewing his body of work, I'm unable to tell you what or even how I felt about it. But this is one of the best, if not the best, books I've read in the last 30 years. I'm almost afraid to pick up the next one in the series as I have work to do and don't know if I'll be able to get it done knowing that more of this world is available to unfold before my eyes. I don't think I've rated more than four or five books at five stars, but I had no hesitation here .I do not think you will be disappointed with this book or the time spent reading it. And I suspect many of you will feel just as I do as to its place as one of the great fantasy novels of our time.

While I had to read through this guide a couple of times, I think it was laid out nicely, given the terminology wasn't all familiar to me at first. I enjoyed it because it gave me a great refresher about the human body and though there are other personal training programs out there, this one seemed to resonate with me very well. I might add that I am not a Personal Trainer, but the guide puts me on track to follow its examples of healthy physical routines to keep my body and mind in a good place. For the person studying for the test as their vocation in life, I say this guide points one in the best direction possible.

I loved the Test-Taking Strategies (although these strategies could be applied to any test). Taking the practice-tests and then going back to see how well the test(s) were performed really goes a long way to "acing" the test.The American Council on Exercise® test should be a lot easier if one has gone through this manual.

Good book. I bought it because I was considering getting my certification and I wanted to see what would be on the test. I liked it. It was a bit thinner than I imagined (hands the 4 Stars) but it is a short test and the content covered looks good.

I am neither a guitarist or guitar collector but decided to pick up this book due to the positive reviews, my previous experience with Deke's music/writing and my general love of classic California country music. I'm not suprised about the wide spread on the reviews posted because (as many have mentioned) this isn't really a guitar book. Instead it a compliation of stories about notable guitar finds told through the lens of Deke's life with a heavy does of music history mixed in. Knowing Deke's leanings as a classic country/rockabilly freak, it should be obvious that most of these "notable guitars" aren't Strats....in fact, many of these guitars and musicians aren't very well known...unless you are a fan of Classic Californa Country and roots music in general...IF YOU ARE, I think you will find this book an extremely enjoyable read.its fun accessible and very easy on the eyes....the book itself is a beauty...it's sort of a mini coffee table book...it's the size of a normal trade hardcover, but there is no dust cover (the cover you see is printed directly on the binding) and it is CHOCK FULL of great pictures...it is perfect for just picking up and reading one chapter at a time...it has been my go to book for Sunday readings the past two weeks...so unless you are digital dominant, I wouldn't opt for the Kindle edition...PS: Volume 2 is coming out in a few weeks and I plan to pick that one up too!

Let's talk books. You know -- those bound paper stacks with words printed in ink? This is a gorgeous little book! The cover has the photos and artwork beautifully printed - no need for a dust jacket. The size is about 11 inches by 7 inches - a welcome and usefully holdable size compared to the normal coffee-table book sizes most guitar books gravitate toward. The paper is semi glossy and robust. Each page is lovingly adorned with a high quality rare photo or long forgotten ad copy or logo from guitars long ago, and the text flows around the graphics. It's a beautiful presentation and a wonderful way to mix a modest amount of graphic content with lots of text content. I wish more collector books were in this style and size.Ok, so the stories: There's scads of absorbing, exciting and interesting short stories, all true, about rare old guitars and their lucky discoverers. Dickerson has a simple, clear writing style that suits the subject matter and never distracts from the story. Tons of personality in these stories -- I love how the author gets into the personalities of the folks who had kept these rare guitars, often not knowing quite what they owned, GREAT Christmas gift for that guitarist in the family.

If you have even a mild case of G.A.S. (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) or an interest in vintage guitars you will LOVE this book. I've long been a fan of Deke's music (and he's great in person too) so reading this book was like sitting down with a fellow guitar geek over a beer and swapping "the one that got away" stories. Like you would expect from any obsessed collector, Deke goes beyond the mere pursuit of rare guitars and gets into the history of the instruments and the people that created them. But this isn't a book of cold, hard facts. Deke tells the stories in an entertaining and sincere way.In the cold winter and hot summer months between local vintage guitar shows reading this book is a good way to scratch that rare guitar itch. Every serious fan of guitars knows exactly what I mean. If you read or subscribe to Vintage Guitar magazine you will love this book.PS: Strat In The Attic volume 2 is also available and is just as fun to read.

Deke whacks this book out of the park. For a non-fiction book on a very linear subject, his writing is stellar and his story telling is superb. Even if you don't care much for guitars or don't know anything about the subject, the book is engaging and has some great storytelling.Without spoiling the book, Deke tells the stories almost as though he is handing them down to you by word of mouth. However he is an excellent writer and the way he articulates his thought and story is absolutely top notch.Oh yes, if you like guitars, this book is ridiculously cool. It brings to light guitars that you might never have thought of or seen and discusses players and their reasoning behind picking esoteric brands of guitars (and does a great job discussing their builders as well). Yes, I know the above is a run-on sentence! Still, the book has all that and some well placed pictures as well.At the very least, this book will tell you some great stories. But even better, it will introduce you to music, instruments and people that shouldn't be forgotten in the sands of time and the ever changing markets of music. Worth every penny!

Deke is brilliant and underappreciated guitarist. I've met several collectors who don't recognize that so much of the thrill and beauty of these instruments is in the wonderful people that crafted or played them. Deke gets it, and you never get the impression that he's simply "collecting pelts" or chasing ego gratification. These are often stories of people, and Deke must be as big-hearted as he is talented. He comes by these treasures honestly, and fully recognizes their true value is bringing people happiness. The mark of that is the amount of people that he's befriended in his search.That said, especially if you've dreamed of cleaning out an attic or basement and finding a Johnny Smith or a great old Tele or Gretsch, this book will make your mouth water. But that seems gone now, and unlikely to return.I think the book might have done a bit more to amplify the surrounding empires and cultures that washed over Mount Lebanon over the centuries, but I found it informative and a good companion to the History of Byzantium and of the Ottoman Empire.

Well, it's the Constitution. I think everyone should get a copy and read it. Yes, we read it in high school probably, but who pays attention in high school. Get a copy for yourself and one for each of your representatives in Washington DC because I don't think some of our representatives remember what their Constitutional duties are.

Love it. I keep this in my car to read when waiting for my kids and for reference when having a political difference with someone. Print is perfect size and clear lettering. The book is a bit larger than pocket sized but any smaller would cause the text size to be too small. It's perfect for me.

I feel even more American now. Nuff said.

Love love loved it . I'm glad that monie stopped acting like a brat at times with VJ that man loved her with everything within him. Haven and Ariel had that special relationship that no one can come between no matter what. I like Christian and Stormy together. Great read as usual cant wait to see what's next from you.

Again Tina J delivered a banging finale!!! It was good to see the offspring of some of my other favs from other books get and fight to keep their love!!! I'm still lost as to who is Shemekas son's father?! I'm going to read over the last couple chapters to see if it was indeed VJ....idk....🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 per usual!!

Tina J has done it again, I absolutely loved that all of the Couples survived and Haven truly did grow up for the same not his family and more importantly Ariel, he truly did love her. Christian and Stormy beyond happy for him, he deserved some happiness after Elaine with her trifling self. VJ was all about Monie and I couldn't wait for them to get Mecca! Absolutely loved the family dynamics, grandma didn't play no games!💗💗💗

This series was everything! I just know there is a spinoff in the works because there was some loose ends. VJ is still Bae. Once all these secrets surface it’s gone bee some ish. Phenomenal Job. You definitely did that

These characters were a trip and the drama was crazy, but at the end of the day each of the families road for each other and at some point realized that they had to come together. Especially because of Armonie and Ariel. Everyone definitely had me laughing. Grams was a mess. Lol. I was happy with how things ended for everyone.
