I ordered the Kindle edition of this siddur, however, it doesn't work with a regular Kindle. You must have a Kindle Fire or some other tablet to even view the content of the book. I find this disappointing, and would like to have it updated in order to be able to view on a regular Kindle. Otherwise, it is exactly like the version we use at my synagogue and met my expectations.
This is essentially a photo reproduction of the printed book. For use at synagogue the book is much easier to read due to larger page size than my iphone. On the phone you will need to use some zoom on each page which is distracting. Plus on shabbat the use of electronic devices does not follow religiously traditional shomer sabbos rules so using the print book is much more appropriate. The printed book can be heavy for some, in those cases I think use of a small lectern as some use in orthodox shuls to position the book up closer to the reader.For portability this kindle version certainly much easier to carry around. There are no hyper links or other features that a fully adapted book on kindle can have so that would be a great way for CCAR to improve this. And like Dilbert's pointy haired boss would say it will make your electronic device heavier to carry :)
A beautiful, functional siddur that reflects Reform's relentless move back to traditional worship, but with a thoroughly contemporary approach to interpretation, transliteration, and translation. Those coming from other movements will still have to get used to a few changes in some central prayers (Amidah, Aleinu among others), but given Reform ideology, the changes are entirely understandable. Interestingly, this siddur is quite accessible to non-Jews looking to broaden their spiritual horizons. Worth buying in multiple forms, print for home use, Kindle for travel.
Disappointed that it will only open on my Ipad, Not on my Kindle reader!
Just like the one we use at my shul. My only criticism is that it would be better if it also had page numbers that also matched the pagination of the individual volumes.
The kindle version is fine, however, as the primary language of this book is Hebrew the pages should turn right to left as the siddur used in the temple does. It opens and pages turns like an English book. This is incorrect.
I love it. I have rheumatoid arthritis and the book is so heavy it hurts my hands. I ordered this and use the Kindle on my iPad. So much lighter. Also good if you have trouble reading in dim light. Can increase size of letters so those with vision issues can use the prayer book.
My initial review (below) was quick to judgement and based on a misunderstanding. This will work on Windows PCs, but only with the Desktop version of Kindle reader, not with the mobile app. That is fine because windows tablets can run Desktop programs without issue.Now that I have installed the desktop Kindle reader, I am very satisfied, and I apologize for my initial harsh reaction.Original review (for reference only):Unbelievably, there is no way to use this on a PC (Windows). It only works on Apple, Android, and Kindle Fire. Total waste of money for any of the billion or so people who use PCs.
